About Organic Garden Guide — this site exists to make organic gardening simple, clear, and genuinely enjoyable for beginners across the UK. Organic Garden Guide exists to make organic gardening simple, clear, and genuinely enjoyable for beginners across the UK. Whether you’re growing in a small back garden, a balcony, a raised bed, or a few containers, this site gives you practical, step‑by‑step advice you can trust.
I created Organic Garden Guide because so many gardening websites assume you already know everything — soil types, composting methods, seed varieties, pests, tools, and techniques. Beginners are often left confused, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start. This site fixes that by offering clear, friendly, beginner‑focused guidance written in plain English.

Who I Am
I’m Steven — a lifelong gardener based in Derbyshire. I learned to grow food naturally by working alongside my father, whether in the back garden, on a rented field where he grew beetroots for a local company, or on the allotment he tended for years.
I learned how to improve soil without chemicals using a compost pit at the end of the family garden, and how to create a space that supports wildlife as much as it supports the dinner table.
Much of what I share on this site comes from real experience in real conditions: clay soil, unpredictable weather, slugs and woodlice eating my strawberries, other pests, successes, failures — including watching my polytunnel disappear over the garden wall in high winds — and everything in between. If I recommend something, it’s because I’ve tried it myself and know it works.
I’m not here to impress anyone with perfect gardens. I’m here to help you grow things in a simple, sustainable, enjoyable way.
